Thermal Power Plant : Principle, Parts, Working, Advantages and Disadvantages

Basic Introduction or Principle: We all are aware with the term "Generator". A device which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy is known as generator. This generator makes rotate with the help of some kind of external energy. When this energy extract from the energy of steam, the plant is known as steam power plant.  A simple steam plant works on Rankine cycle. In the first step, water is feed into a boiler at a very high pressure by BFP (boiler feed pump). This high pressurized water is heated into a  boiler   which converts it into high pressurized super heated steam. This high energized steam passes through steam  turbine  (a mechanical device which converts flow energy of fluid into mechanical energy) and rotate it. Owing to extract full energy of steam, three stage turbines is used which is known as LPT (Low pressure turbine), IPT (intermediate pressure turbine) and HPT (High pressure turbine). The turbine shaft is connected to the...

Brief History and General Introduction of Automobile

An automobile is a self-propelled vehicle that travels on land. It consist an internal combustion engine which provides the power and the vehicle runs on the wheels. The primary function of an automobile is to carries people and goods from one place to another. All bikes, cars, truck etc. include in it.

History of automobile:

The history of automobile is very wide, but today I am going to tell you some unforgettable years in the automobile field.

Brief History and General Introduction of Automobile

In the early days people used bullock carriage or other animals such as camel, horse etc. to transport good and human from one place to another. In use of these animals one big problem encounter is that they could not travel for long distance and for long time. So the necessary of a machine is arrive which can satisfied these function.

After a great effort of scientist an automobile come into existence in 1769, when a French engineer Captain Nicholas Cugnot design the first road vehicle propelled by its own power. It is a steam engine automobile but his design proved to be impractical.

First steam carriage built by Richard Trevithick in 1801 in England.

In the year 1860, first internal combustion engine is developed by J.J.E. Lenoir. He used coal gas as fuel. There is no compression stroke before burring of fuel.

In the year 1867, Nikolaus Otto and Eugen Langer used compression stroke in that engine so the power of engine will increase.

In the year 1876, Nikolaus Otto developed first four stroke spark ignition engine.

After this several engineers (Dugald Clerk, James Robson and Karl Benz) developed two stroke engine.

In the year 1880, Karl Benz in Germany developed a tricycle propelled by an internal combustion engine.

In the year 1892, Rudolf Diesel developed first four stroke compression ignition engine.

In the year 1920 a stratified charge engine developed which can run on both petrol and diesel. Ricardo developed a jet ignited stratified charged engine.

In the year 1957 Wankel developed a rotary type internal combustion engine.

How does an automobile work?

In an automobile many parts work together and make an automobile run. These all parts are known as basic component of an automobile. These are-

Engine is the power unit in automobile. The main function of engine is to convert the chemical energy into mechanical energy by burning of fuel. This mechanical energy use to rotate the wheels.

Automated Portable Hammering Machine

Automated Portable Hammering Machine Hammering is the most widely used industrial as well as construction activity. Hammering or screws, metal sheets, parts etc requires a lot of time and effort. So here we propose an automated hammering system that allows for fully automatic hammering process. This allows for accurate, fast and automated hammering wherever and whenever needed using a 12V battery. The person just needs to insert workpeice and start the hammering machine. This machine can be used for automatic hammering work as and when needed. We here use a dc motor in order to move the hammer. The DC motor consists of a pulley attached to it which is connected to a larger pulley for efficient power transfer and to increase torque. This large pulley is connected to a shaft that has a connecting rod attached to it. This rod is used to achieve lateral motion from the spinning shaft. We now connect the other end of hammer to this connecting rod through a mid swinging arrangement in ...

Pedal Operated Hacksaw

Pedal Operated Hacksaw Operating a hacksaw manually is a very tiring and time consuming task. It requires a lot of manual effort and delivers uneven cutting. Operating a electrical hacksaw does deliver good results but consumes a lot of energy. So here we propose a semi automated hacksaw using pedal power. Here we design and fabricate a hacksaw that is run by pedal power and achieves even cutting with very less efforts. Here we use a chain sprocket arrangement to transfer power from pedals to hacksaw. A strong and firm base frame allows for efficient power transfer between the system. We use bearings and mounts to mount and setup the entire system and ensure a smooth circular motion of pedals. Now we attach a hub to the other sprocket. This hub is connected with a connecting rod which moves with the hub in order to produce a lateral motion. We now develop a supporting frame and connect a saw to the other end in order to achieve desired cutting movement of saw. We also attach ...

Automatic Paper Cutting Machine Using Geneva Mechanism

Here we propose the design and fabrication of a fully automated paper cutter based on geneva mechanism. Our proposed system cuts paper pieces of equal lengths based on geneva mechanism. System uses a 12V motor in order to drive the entire system. We use a shaft which is directly connected to the motor. This shaft has a connecting rod which is connected to a scissor in order to drive the cutting mechanism for cutting paper. This motor shaft is connected to a sprocket which is in turn connected by a chain to another sprocket. This sprocket is now connected to a genava mechanism wheel. This wheel is used to drive paper feed into the cutter mechanism. Here we use geneva mechanism driven by another connecting z shape rod. This mechanism ensures paper feed of equal length inserted at proper time intervals. System uses a supporting frame that maintains proper coordination between feed and cutting mechanism.
