Thermal Power Plant : Principle, Parts, Working, Advantages and Disadvantages

Basic Introduction or Principle: We all are aware with the term "Generator". A device which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy is known as generator. This generator makes rotate with the help of some kind of external energy. When this energy extract from the energy of steam, the plant is known as steam power plant.  A simple steam plant works on Rankine cycle. In the first step, water is feed into a boiler at a very high pressure by BFP (boiler feed pump). This high pressurized water is heated into a  boiler   which converts it into high pressurized super heated steam. This high energized steam passes through steam  turbine  (a mechanical device which converts flow energy of fluid into mechanical energy) and rotate it. Owing to extract full energy of steam, three stage turbines is used which is known as LPT (Low pressure turbine), IPT (intermediate pressure turbine) and HPT (High pressure turbine). The turbine shaft is connected to the...

Working of Rocket Engine

Today we will discuss working of Rocket engines. Rocket engine is the very popular engine about which everyone want to know. Today I am discussing this topic. Rocket engines works on both liquid and solid fuel of combination of both. Liquid rocket engines further subdivided into two types mono-propellant and bi-propellant systems. Mono-propellant engines operate either as a simple cold gas system or apply a catalyst for an exothermal decomposition of the propellant, such as hydrazine (N2H4) or laughing gas (N2O). Generally these type of engines are only in use for low thrust satellite propulsion systems. Typical bi-propellant engines use either earth storable propellants, generally combinations of nitric acid or its anhydride with derivates of hydrazine,  asymmetric di-methyl hydrazine or mono-methyl-hydrazine (MMH), mixtures of storable and cryogenic propellants, liquid oxygen and kerosene or fully cryogenic, liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. Although rocket engines sh...

Types of Gearbox

Today we will discuss about types of gearbox used to power transmission in automobile industries. An automobile requires high torque when climbing hills and when starting, even though they are performed at low speeds. On other hand, when running at high speeds on level roads, high torque is not required because of momentum.  So requirement of a device is occur, which can change the vehicle’s torque and its speed according to road condition or when the driver need. This device is known as gearbox box. In an automobile various gearboxes are used which allow the vehicle to obtain different torque and speed combination. These are as follow Types of Gearbox: Basically Gear box is divided into two types according to the transmission. These are- 1. Manual Transmission Gearbox: In this type of transmission different speed ratio or gear ratio is selected by the driver manually. Some special skill of driving is required to operate this type of gear box. According...

Differential Gear Working

Differential is the main component of the power train. It is bolted on the rear axle and connects the propeller shaft to the rear wheels. While a vehicle taking a turn, its outer wheel run faster than the inner wheel. If we connects the propeller shaft by rear axle without using of differential gear, than the torque transmitted both the rear wheels is equal in any condition. So the both rear wheels will run at same speed while taking a turn which occur a problem in driving a vehicle. To eliminate this problem a device is used which is known as differential gear. Differential is the mechanism of gears by means of which outer wheel runs faster than the inner wheel while taking a turn or moving over upheaval road. It is a part of the driving axle housing assembly, which includes the differential, rear axles, wheels and bearings. It consists of a system of gear arranged in such a way that connects the propeller shaft with the rear axle and transmit the different torque to rear wheels i...

What is Drive Line? What is Propeller Shaft, Universal Joint and Slip Joint?

When an engine produces power and clutch and transmission convert it into required torque, some assembly is needed to carry this torque to driving axle or usually to rear axle. This assembly is known as drive line. A drive line consist one or more drive shaft (propeller shaft), universal joints, and slip joints. Various types of propeller shaft, universal joint, and slip joints are used to carry engine power from the transmission box to the driving wheels.  Today I am going to tell you about drive shaft component and there working in detail. These are the main components of drive shaft- Propeller shaft: The propeller shaft is a driving shaft which connects the transmission main shaft to the differential of the real axle. It transmits the power from gear box to rear axle with the help of universal joints. The propeller shaft is also known as drive shaft. It performs the following function: To receive the power from the gear box output shaft and without any change...

Gear Box and its main components

Hi friends, today i will try to explain what is gear box, function of gear box, components and its working. This device is known as transmission box. Function  of transmission box (gear box) in automobile: The transmission box which is also known as the gear box is the second element of the power train in an automobile. It is used to change the speed and torque of vehicle according to variety of road and load condition. Transmission box change the engine speed into torque when climbing hills and when the vehicle required. Sometimes it is known as torque converter.  Main functions of a gear ...

Types of Clutches

Today we will discuss about types of clutches used in automobile industries. In an  automobile , the  engine  produces power and this power is carry to the wheels by use of power train. The first element of this train is  clutch . The main function of the clutch is to engage and disengages the engine to the wheel when the driver need or when shifting the gears. Basically clutch may be classified as follow. Types of Clutches: These may classified as follow: According to the method of transmitting torque : 1. Positive clutch (Dog clutch): In the positive clutch, grooves are cut either into the driving member or into the driven member and some extracted parts are situated into both driving and driven member. When the driver releases clutch pedal then these extracted parts insert into grooves and both driving and driven shaft revolve together. When he push the clutch pedal these extracted parts come out from grooves and the engine shaft revolve itsel...

What is Clutch in Automobile? What are Main Parts of Clutch?

Today we will discuss about what is clutch and what are main parts of clutch. Clutch is very essential part of an automobile.  What is Clutch? In automobile, a gear box is required to change the speed and torque of the vehicle. If we change a gear, when the engine is engaged with gear box or when the gears are in running position then it can cause of wear and tear of gears. To overcome this problem a device is used between gear box and engine, known as clutch. Clutch is the first element of power train. The main function of clutch is to engage and disengage the engine to transmission, when the driver need or during shifting of gear. When the clutch is in engage position, the power flows from the engine to the wheel and when it is in disengage position, the power is not transmitted. Principle of clutch: The clutch is based on the friction. When two friction surfaces are brought into contact and pressed, then they are united due to friction force between them. This i...
